Carlo's Integer Scribe Post.

Today I am going to help you solve Integers ;)

Our First Question :  (-3) - 2 = +5
Now First Step: Write it down in words.
owe 3 and owe 2
" To Remove something that is not there
We Have to use a Zero Pair" - #MrHarbeck2013

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative
So, you have 3 negative tiles. You cannot remove something that is not there, time to use a Zero pair ;)
Now you have 2 negative tiles now add 2 more to make a zero pair. Now take the 2 negative tiles and take them out and count out how many tiles you have left. And by the way a Negative and a Negative equals a Positive. So at the end you should end up with positive 5. I hope i made this clear enough for you to understand, Im sure it was a little bit confusing but once you see me in the act of doing it you will kind of understand what grade 8 math is about.

Our Second Question: (-3) - (-1) = -2
Now First Step: Write it down in words.
owe 3 and owe one

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative

So, you have 3 negative tiles the same thing we did on the last question to remove something that is not there we have to use a zero pair. So now you have 1 negative tile you use a zero pair on that one take the 2 negative tiles out and you should have a Negative two as your final answer.

 Our Third Question:  5-(2)= +7
Now First Step: Write it down in words.
Have 5 and owe 2

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative
So, you have 5 positive tiles this is the most easy one out of all the other questions we do it different the one that is the highest which in this case is Positive 5 the answer has to be Positive. Now you have Negative 2 tiles to remove something that is not there you have to use a zero pair. So, now you use a zero pair instead of 2 you now have 4. Now you take the Negative 2 away and you are left with 2 extra positives. Now your final answer should be Positive 7.

Our Last Question: -5-3= +8
Now First Step: Write it down in words.
Owe 5 and Owe 3

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative
-----    ---
So, you owe 5 you have 5 negative tiles and 3 negative tiles. This is an easy one, you just add the two integers together. Since they are both negative the Final answer has to be a Positive. 5+3= +8
--------

On the first question, you said 'owe 3 and owe 2'. which was right. But then when you said the answer was '+5', I got kind of confused and thought it was -5. But the 'negative, negative = positive' is correct but when the negative signs are beside each other, get it?

On the second question, since the "-" signs are beside each other, it should be 'remove' instead of 'and', you see? Make sure you also use the question with the negative sign which is beside the subtract sign. Because that's how it makes the positive.

Third Question: Just make sure you add the "-" sign to the '2' because it looks kind of confusing for some reason. And it wouldn't make sense because the negative signs aren't beside each other.

Fouth Question: It doesn't exactly mean about the fact that because both numbers are negative, the result would be positive.

    On (-2) + (-2) It would be 'owe 2 and owe 2'.

The signs would just be something like " - - " including two more signs " - - ", so it would be owe four for the fact of there are four negatives together.

Unless I missed something, thanks for posting this and I hope I helped you. (:

    (sorry for the long comment)

  2. Also you need a video for this scribe post. It's okay if you got some stuff mixed up, just practice and you'll become better at it. I really liked how much effort you put into this:)

  3. I liked how you added so much effort into this post but I feel like it could have been more simple for us to understand and figure out. I get what your point is but it took a bit long to process. Good job though!
