Saansouk's Scribe Post

I will be doing a scribe on the first lession we did.

(-6) + (+9) =

Breaking this question down in to words it would have said.

Owe 6 and Have 9 =

The reason this is what it is, it's because the - means that it's Owe and the + means that it's Have.

The job of the brackets these ( and ) are to seperate the numbers.

Finally the + in the middle stands for and it separates the number to tell you that they are what need to be added.

Sophia's Integer Scribe Post

Integer Addition and Subtraction:

Question 1:
9-1=

1. First you have to write out the question in words, owe = negative ( - )  have = positive ( + or/ numbers without the + ex. 9 )

For this question the sentence would be:
Have 9 Owe 1= 8
( You don't need an "and" but you it makes it easier for you can put one)

2.We have to put into integer chips ( + and - )

This would be:
+++++++++
-

Since there is a zero pair we take those out and then what ever we have left is the answer. Which is 8 chips ( ++++++++ ) Zero pairs are a positive sign (+) with a negative sign (-) like what we have here in the top.

3. We put it in a number line.
                      9
                 ----------->
<_______0______8_______________>

                          <---
                              -1

Question 2:
6+(-7)=

1. Like what we did on the first one we need to put it in a sentence.

Have 6 Owe 7 = Owe 1

2. Put it into integer chips.

++++++
- - - - - - -

There are zero pairs, so we take them out.

3. Put it in a number line
                  6
              -------->
<_____________-1_0____________>
                <----------
                      -7

Question 3:
(-8) + (-3) =

1. Put in sentences ( owe and have )

Owe 8 Owe 3 = Owe 11

2. Integer chips ( - and + )

- - - - - - - -    - - -

In here we have no zero pairs so we just count what we have and that is the answer.
So, that 11 chips.

3. Number line, like the others we put it in a number line.

<________-11____________0_____>
                   <------<---------
                       -3       -8

Question 4:
 9 - (-4) =

1. Put it in sentences:
Have 9 negative Owe 4 = Have 14

You see the bold negative we put that because "To remove what isn't there you must add a zero pair"

2. Integer chips:
Since this question is a bit different than other you have to do a little extra work. As before "To remove what isn't there you must add a zero pair"
Lets start with -(-4):
put into integer chips like so,
- - - -  >>>
++++
Now the negative chips goes away and gets replaced my positive chips.
Then add with positive 9 ( Have 9)
++++++++++ ++++
 which makes positive 14 ( Have 14)

3.Make a Number line.

You cannot make a number line for this question, so you need to show your work by using the integer chips.

Question 5:
(-7) - (-7) =

1. Once again put it in sentences.
Owe 7 negative Owe 7 = 0
 ( remember negative )     :)
( zero is the middle so it doesn't have a positive or negative sign )

2. integer chips:
"To remove what isn't there you must add a zero pair"
 So once again,

- - - - - - -  >>>>>>
+++++++

- - - - - - -
+++++++

Then the zero pairs are taken out. The remaining is 0.

3.Make a Number line.

You cannot make a number line for this question, so you need to show your work by using the integer chips.

\

Question 6:
3 + 8 = 12

(Repeat what we did )
1. Write it out!
Have 3 Have 8 = Have 12

2. Integer chips!
+++    +++++++++

3.Number line
(make one on your paper)

Question 7:
 0 - 8 =8
(From the top)
1.Write the sentence (owe and have)
0 Owe 8 = Owe 8

2. ( + - )

- - - - - - - - -

3. NUMBER LINE.

Question 8:
(-2) + 3 = 1
1. Sentence:
Owe 2 Have 3= Have 1
2.Chips.
+++
- -
There is a zero pair take it away. You have have positive 1.
3. Numberline.
(make it )

Tyrell's pay it forward

Pay it forward is when you help someone without being asked and not taking a reward.

For my pay it forward I donated clothes to the Macdonald youth services shelter. I chose to do that for my pay it forward because I have lots if clothes that I either don't wear or don't fit me anymore. I  also gave timbits because who doesn't enjoy timbits. Another reason why I chose to do this is because there are many teenagers that are not fortunate enough to have proper clothing to wear. I was not allowed to take photos in the shelter due to safety and privacy concerns. instead I have a photo of me by the building.

Another thing that I had done for my pay it forward was giving coffee and donuts to fire men. I also gave donuts to the people outside Silom mission. I did this on Christmas morning.

Anyways it felt pretty good doing my pay it forward and its very easy to do. It was a good experience and I will remember it for a long time.

Saansouk's Pay it Forward

Part 1:
Pay it forward is when you help 3 people without asking or taking a reward for and then letting them help someone.

Part 2:
For my pay it forward i worked at a daycare called Busy Bee Daycare. I chose a Daycare because i wanted to show and help little kids you can help without being older. i tried to do some of the cleaning there such as taking out the trash and cleaning the carpets.

Part 3:

Overall it was pretty easy for me to clean and play with the kids, it was a fun experience for me. i got treated like a normal working.

How to solve Integers

First Question:
write the question down
5-2= 3

First Step:
write the question in words:
have 5 and owe 2 = have 3

Second Step:
use the tiles to show or help you how to get the answer.
5-2=3
have 5 positive tiles and have 2 owe tiles
   +++++                              --
use zero pair
5 =+++++
2 = - -
(the highlighted in green means to remove)
 and now it's only gonna have 3 positive tiles which means the answer will be 3.

Second Question:
write down the question
-4-4=8

First Step:
Write the question in words:
owe 4 and owe 4 = owe 8

Second Step:
pretty much straight forward
-4-4=-8
it has both negatives which means you just need to have add the both numbers together and since it's negative (owe) your gonna make the answer negative by just putting a "-".

Third Question:
Write down the question
7-(-9)=16

First Step:
Write the question in words
have 7 remove owe 9 = 16

Second Step:
 Use tiles to show or help to get the answer
7-(-9)=16
have 7 positive tiles and remove 9 negative tiles
use the zero pair, have the negative match to the positive
7= +++++++
-9= - - - - - - - - -  = removed
       +++++++++
after remove all the negatives and leave the positives
then add the whole positive which it will be 16
so the answer to 7=(-9) is 16

Fourth Question:
write the question down
10+4=14

First Step:
write the question in words
have 10 and have 4 = have 14

Second Step:
use the tiles to show or help you how to get the answer.
10+4=14
have 10 positive tiles and have 4 positive tiles
it pretty much straight forward, just add the two number and the will be the answer,
so  the answer to 10 + 4 is 14.

Ainsley's Integer Scribe Post

This part of the post will show you how I understand how to subtract integers with brackets.

Step One: You write out the question: 7-(-9) =

Step Two: You have to rewrite it using words such as owe, have, remove, & and.
Note: Owe means it's a negative number and have means it's a positive number.
Answer:  have 7 remove owe 9

Step Three: You model it in integer tiles to help show that you understand or to help you get the answer.
7- (-9) =  + + + + + + +    - - - - - - - - -
After that, you have to make zero pairs so first you match the negatives (owes) with positives.

7- (-9)=  + + + + + + +     - - - - - - - - -
                                        + + + + + + + + +       (pretend they're the same size)

Then, you removes those owes/negatives and you add what's left (positives) to your first amount of positives which is 7.

7- (-9)= + + + + + + +      - - - - - - - - -
                                         + + + + + + + + +    (The highlighted part means that it is leaving.)

After that, you now add it together so : + + + + + + +    + + + + + + + + + = 16 positives or just 16.

Lastly, you add in your answers to the question.
7- (-9) = 16
have 7 remove owe 9 = have 16

Now, you'll see how I did the other questions.

Carlo's Integer Scribe Post.

                                                       Today I am going to help you solve Integers ;)

Our First Question :  (-3) - 2 = +5
 Now First Step: Write it down in words.
owe 3 and owe 2
" To Remove something that is not there
We Have to use a Zero Pair" - #MrHarbeck2013

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative
 So, you have 3 negative tiles. You cannot remove something that is not there, time to use a Zero pair ;)
Now you have 2 negative tiles now add 2 more to make a zero pair. Now take the 2 negative tiles and take them out and count out how many tiles you have left. And by the way a Negative and a Negative equals a Positive. So at the end you should end up with positive 5. I hope i made this clear enough for you to understand, Im sure it was a little bit confusing but once you see me in the act of doing it you will kind of understand what grade 8 math is about.

Our Second Question: (-3) - (-1) = -2
 Now First Step: Write it down in words.
owe 3 and owe one

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative

So, you have 3 negative tiles the same thing we did on the last question to remove something that is not there we have to use a zero pair. So now you have 1 negative tile you use a zero pair on that one take the 2 negative tiles out and you should have a Negative two as your final answer.

 Our Third Question:  5-(2)= +7
 Now First Step: Write it down in words.
Have 5 and owe 2

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative
So, you have 5 positive tiles this is the most easy one out of all the other questions we do it different the one that is the highest which in this case is Positive 5 the answer has to be Positive. Now you have Negative 2 tiles to remove something that is not there you have to use a zero pair. So, now you use a zero pair instead of 2 you now have 4. Now you take the Negative 2 away and you are left with 2 extra positives. Now your final answer should be Positive 7.

Our Last Question: -5-3= +8
 Now First Step: Write it down in words.
Owe 5 and Owe 3

 Second Step: Use Pictures.
+ = Positive
- = Negative
-----    ---
So, you owe 5 you have 5 negative tiles and 3 negative tiles. This is an easy one, you just add the two integers together. Since they are both negative the Final answer has to be a Positive. 5+3= +8
--------
