Sophia's Percent Post

A percent is a equivalent number out of 100.

100 percent means everything, 100/100
To find 100 percent you have to divide the equivalent number by 1.

50 percent means 50/100, 1/2, divided by 2, half.
To find 50 percent you have to divide the equivalent number by 2.

25 percent means 25/100, 1/4, quarter, divided by 4.
To find 25 percent you have to divide the equivalent number by 4.

10 percent means 10/100, 1/10, divided by 10.
To find 10 percent you have to divide the equivalent number by 10.

1 percent means 1/100, divided by 100.
To find 1 percent you have to divide the equivalent number by 100.

3) Converting Percents Fractions and Decimal

To convert a fraction to a decimal you have to divide the numerator and the denominator to get a decimal number.
ex. 3/40 = 0.075
3 divided by 40 makes 0.075

Now to convert a decimal to a percent you have to multiply my 100, because percents are out of 100 and also a decimal is out of 1.
ex. 0.075*100 = 7.5 so thats 7.5%
0.075 multiplied by 100 makes 7.5

To convert a percent to a fraction you have to get the decimal which if it was 7.5% you divide that by 100  which makes 0.075. Since the place holder is in the thousandths place we put the denominator 1000 and then 75 on the numerator. Then we divide by 2 to get a equivalent fraction.
ex.
75/1000 divide until we get an equivalent fraction = 3/40

4)
20% of 60
Calculator:

20/100= 0.2        0.2*60=12    therefore 12 is 20 percent of 60

Mental Math:

20% of 60 0.1% of 40

250% of 400

5) Combining Percents

Which is a better deal?
50% off or 25% off of an already reduced price of 25%
 If the price was $60.00

to get 50 percent you divide 50 by 100 to get the decimal of 50. Then the number will be 0.5, so 0.5 * 60 = 30.00 so 50% of 60.00 is $30.00.

Now 25% of an already reduced price of 25%.
First get 25% of 60
Which will be 25/100 because all percents a out of 100. Then that would be 0.25, 0.25 * 60 = 15 then
 60- 15 = 45.00
Then there will be a new total  which is $45.00 Then repeat what you did before but instead of the 60 which was the old total it will be 45.00 so 45 -15  = 40.00

So now you know 50% is better then 25% off of an already reduced price of 25%.

Discount is what you save
Sale price is what you pay
Total price is what you pay with the taxes

3/40- First you divide the numerator by the denominator. Then you multiply the decimal by 100 to get your percent.
3 divided by 40 = 0.075
0.075 x 100 = 7.5%

5.98- First you multiply by 100. To find the fraction, you count the amount of digits there are. In this case there are 3.
5.98 x 100 = 598%
The fraction would be 598/100.

750%- First you divide the percent by 100. You divide by 100 becausena percent is equivalent to 100 so you have to do the opposite operation.
750 divided by 100 = 7.5
In this case, it would be 7 1/2.

A percent is a numerator that is out of one hundred. ?/100

100 percent means everything 100/100 or 10/10
To find 100% you divide the denominator by 1.
example: If you have 40 apples and you want to find out 100% of those 40 apples you think. If I think of 100 as a fraction it looks like this: 100/100. But if you divide the denominator by 1 you get 100%now if you divide denominator of 40/40 by 1 you still have 40. That means that 100% of 40 is 100%.

50 percent means half or 1/2 or 50/100.
To find 50% you divide the denominator by 2.
example: If you have 40 apples and you want to find out 50% of those apples, you think. If I think of 50 as a fraction, it looks like this: 50/100. But if you divide the denominator by 2 you get 50% which is half, now if you divide the denominator of 40/40 by 2, you get 20. That means that 50% of 40 is 20%.

Josh's Percent Post (Josh J.)

Q:What is a percent?
A:A percent is an equivalent fraction out of 100. Since this is like a fraction itself, it can relate to fractions and can be used to change normal fractions into a percentage. To do so, you must divide the numerator of the fraction by the denominator of the fraction. After this you will get a decimal number out of 1. This means that there will be no decimal to get even past it if it was a normal fraction that you were working with. You must multiply the decimal by 100 and boom! You got yourself a nice percentage out of 100!

N/D=Decimal/1
Decimal/1 x 100=%/100

Q:What is 100%
A:Percent or to be more exact 100%, is everything or perfect. For example, if you were to get a test mark and you got 25/25, that would be perfect or "everything correct".

Q: How do you find 100%
A:Now when you guys do your tests, I'm sure you guys all love to find out the actual percent you guys got instead of having a lousy fraction. In order to change this fraction into a percent, we have to first find 100% of the fraction your working with. EX:

I got 25/25 on my test. I really want to know the percentage I actually got.
100% of 25 is.....

Then we need to know how much by percent, we actually have, or the numerator of the fraction in percent form. To do this, we must divide 100% by 1 which is the usual number when you want to get the percentage on a perfect test. Also, if you divide the percent, you must also divide the denominator of the fraction (25) by the amount you divided 100% by

100/1=100%
25/1=25

With this information, you can have an accurate answer that 100% of 25 is 25.

Q: How do you find 50%
A: To find 50 percent you use the same method. You just change the number you are dividing with by 2. EX:

I got 5/10 on my math test. I wonder what percent I actually got.
50% of 10 is......
100/2=50%
10/2=5

Q:How do you find 25%
A: To get 25% you must now divide by 4 when it comes to the part where we divide in this method. EX:

My family gave 6/24's to the fundraiser at Saskatchewan. I wonder how much in percent that we actually helped them with.
25% of 24 is....
100/4=25%
24/4=6

Once again, you can confirm that 25/100 is the same as 6/24 because they are EQUIVALENT.

Q:How do you find 1%
A:To find 1 percent you must divide by 100 this time. EX:

My mom brought me to Superstore and I saw a jug of milk that said it was 0.4/40 in actual milk. I wonder how much milk in percent was really in that jug.
1% of 40 is....
100/100=1%
40/100=0.4

Finally, this concludes that there is 1% of actual milk in the jug because these fractions are EQUIVALENT! Speaking of equivalent, to find  out if 2 fractions are equivalent, you must use the cross multiplying or cross product method. in order to do this you must show that both are equal to each other with an equals sign.

50/100=1/2

Then you must multiply the numerator from the first fraction with the denominator of the other fraction. Do this with both fractions.

50x2=100
1x100=100

If you get both of the same products, you have EQUIVALENT fractions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amanda's Percent Post

A percent is an equivalent fraction out of 100. A fraction is a percent or can be converted to a percent. To get the percent from a fraction you need to divide the numerator by the denominator, this will give you a decimal. You then multiply the decimal by 100. That number is going to be your percent.

Ex. 4/5
4/5 = 0.8
0.8 x 100 = 80%
80 = 80%

100% means everything! 100/100 or 37/37
For 100%, say your fraction was 100/100. To find 100% you divide 100 by 1. Since you're only dividing 100 by 1 it's still going to be 100. It's still going to be the same. This works with all fractions that have the same numerator and denominator.
Ex:100% of 60=?
60/1=60
60=60

50% means half, 1/2 or 50/100.
To find 50% you must divide your number by 2. That gives you half of your number which is 50%
Ex:50% of 60=?
60/2=30
30=30

25% means 1/4, 25/100 or divided by 4.
To find 25% you must divide your number by 4. The number you get is 1/4 of the number you started with.
Ex:25% of 60=?
60/4=15
15-15

10% means 1/10, 10/100 or divided by 10.
To find 10% you must divide your number by 10. This gives you a number that is 1/10. This number is 10% of the number you started with.
Ex:10% of 60=?
60/10=6
6=6

1% means 1/100 or divided by 100.
To find 1% you must divide your number by 100. This give you a number that's 1/100 or 1%.

Store A has a better deal because it is less than Store B after the discount.

Ainsley's Percent Post

A percent is an equivalent fraction of 100. In other words, fractions are turned into decimals and those decimals are turned into percentages!

100 percent means everything 100/100 or 10/10.
To find 100 percent, you have to divide the denominator by 1.
For example: If you had 40 apples and you wanted to find 100% of those 40 apples, you just have to divide 40 by 1. That still give you 40 which means 40 is 100%. You do that because 40 is the denominator or in other words, the whole or whole amount.

50 percent means half, 1/2, or 50/100.
To find 50 percent, you have to divide the denominator by 2.
You have to divide the denominator by 2 because it is half. For example, if you wanted to find 50% of those 40 apples, you divide 40 by 2. That gives you 20 which means 50% of 40 is 20.

25 percent means 25/100 or 1/4.
To find this percent, you have to divide the denominator by 4.
For example: If you had 100 and divided it by 4, that would equally give you 4 x 25. In our case, we have 40 apples. That means you have to divide 40 by 4 instead of 100 by 4. That gives and leaves you with 10.
10 x 4 = 40

10 percent means 10/100 or 1/10.
To find 10 percent, you have to divide the denominator by 10.
You have to do that because for example, the whole percent is 100. If you wanted to find 10% of 100, you would just have to divide it by 10. In this case, you have 40 apples and that means your "whole amount" is 40. Now if you divide 40 by 10, you get 4. To check if it's right, you can do the opposite operation which is multiply. (4 x 10=40)

1 percent means 1/100.
To find this percent (1 percent), you have to divide by 100.
Example: If we divided 100 by 1, we would get 1. In our case, we have 40 apples instead of 100 so it's different. We would have to divide 40 by 100. Once we do that, we get 0.4 or 0.40 (same thing). Now to show that that makes sense, we can multiply by 100 (opposite) and get 40 as our answer.

Converting Percents, Fractions, and Decimals.

Converting fractions to decimals and percents:
3/40: To do this you have to divide the numerator by the denominator. Then, you have to multiply that decimal by 100 to get your percent. 3 divided by 40= 0.075. 0.075 x 100= 7.5%

Converting decimals to percents and fractions:
5.98: To do this, you have to multiply by 100. To find the fraction, you may count the amount of digits or 0's which in this case is 3 but you replace the first digit or the ones with a 1. 5.98 x 100= 598%. 5 98/100.

Converting percents to decimals and fractions:
750%: To do this, you have to divide the percent by 100. That is because a percent is always equivalent to 100 so you have to do the opposite operation. 750 divided by 100 = 7.5. In this case, it would be 7 1/2 since 50 is half of 100.

Question 3 - Page 148. Example #- 200

15 ÷ 100 = 0.15
0.15 x 200 = 30
200 + 30= 230

10 ÷ 100= 0.10
0.10 x 230 = 23
230 + 23 = 253

25 ÷ 100 = 0.25
0.25 x 200 = 50
200 + 50 = 250

Kyle is not correct because 253 > 250.

Show You Know - Page 148
Example # - 200
Store A- 50% off one day only.
Store B- 25% one day + 25% off the reduced price the second day.

50 ÷ 100 = 0.50
0.50 x 200 = 100
200 - 100 = 100

25 ÷ 100 = 0.25
0.25 x 200 = 50
200 - 50 = 150

25 ÷ 100 = 0.25
0.25 x 150 = 37.50
150 - 37.50 = $112.50

Store A has the better buy or price because at the end, the sale price would be $100. At Store B, you would have to pay $12.50 more than Store A.

Heather's Percent Post

A Percent is an equivalent fraction out of 100. Percents are related to fractions. To get the percent in a fraction form you divide the numerator with the denominator and it will give you a decimal. You then multiply the decimal by 100, and it will give you a number out of 100.

N/D = Decimal/1
Decimal x 100 = ?/100

100 percent means everything (e.g 100/100 or 16/16). Per Meaning out of and cent meaning 100, so a percent means a number out of 100.
To find 100 percent, you divide the number  by 1,  and it will give you 100% of that number.
example: 100% of 40 = ?
               40/1 = 40
               100% of 40 is 40
50 percent means half or 1/2 or 50/100.
To find 50 percent, you divide the number by 2, and it will give you 50% of that number.
example: 50% of 40 = ?
                40/2 = 20
                50% of 40 = 20
10% means 1/10 or 10/100.
To find 10 percent, you divide the number by 10, and it will give you 10 % of that number.
example: 10% of 40 = ?
               40/10 = 4
                10% of 40 = 4
25 percent means 1/4 or 25/100.
To find 25 percent, you divide the number by 4, and it will give you 25% of that number.
example: 25% of 40 = ?
               40/4 = 10
               25% of 40 = 10
1 percent means 1/100.
To find 1 percent, you divide the number by 100, and it will give you 1% of that number.
example: 1% of 40 = ?
               40/100 = 0.40
                1% of 40 = 0.40
